Watermelon. It’s a love/hate relationship. It would figure that one of my favorite fruits ever would cause me the biggest hassle ever to prepare. “I LOVE cutting watermelon”…Said
no one ever. It seriously took me like 45 minutes to cut a melon…until my sister introduced me to an epiphany which left me speechless and angry with all those minutes I wasted nearly cutting off one of my fingers.
We eat melon around here like crazy. I even got so desperate that I gave Jordan puppy-dog eyes and a pout to convince him that we absolutely NEEDED a nifty melon slicer from Sam’s Club. It works amazingly on cantaloupe and honey dew..but a large watermelon, not so much.
I have started this deal with my sister..I buy the watermelon and then hint around for her to cut it. The other day, she began cutting and when I turned around about 2 minutes later, she had these perfect little cubes carefully cut and placed in a giant baggie. My mouth dropped, I popped out of my chair, and had to know her secret…so here it is.
I was daring yesterday and decided to clean out “the drawer“. You know, that one where random things seem to wander and you never know what you are going to find. I stumbled upon a stack of hand-written recipes that I received at my Bridal Shower over a year ago. Why they were in that dreaded drawer..I have no idea, but I am so glad I found them. We definitely need to add some flavor and variety to our usual meal plan.
EVERYONE goes on the 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C. right? Nope. Not me! Yes, I will admit I was a “tad” salty about it back in the day, but being able to experience all those “firsts” with Declan made it all worth it..even though he was less than impressed most of the time;)
When the thought of a vacation arose, I was ALL about it..and then realized we have a 3 month old and panic mode quickly set in. The thought of stuffing everything but the kitchen sink in our car and venturing for at least 6 hours one-way made me a “little” uneasy, but we went for it and I am so glad we did…
I am absolutely SHOCKED with how well little mister did in the car. I am amazed by how much patience he already has at such a young age. I’m guessing this was given to him by his daddy, as I get extremely anxious about EVERYTHING:) He slept an extremely long time in the car and my head was racing with the thought that he may get to the hotel and be wide-eyed. Let’s just say I was wrong. He was out like a light when we got there AND I even got to wake up to this cutie face the next morning after we all slept in.
