Declan Brooks :: Month 4

FOUR MONTHS?! Where has the time gone? This time last year, I found out I was pregnant and began a nine month journey that seemed like eternity..Waiting patiently for this perfect little being to enter the big world. And I must say, he is beyond perfect in every way.

DIY Baby Bandana Bibs

IMAGE3

So, I must say..I have always been a “tad” salty about the frills, lace, tulle, glitter {need I go on?} that encompasses what being a little girl is all about. We all know that you can walk into a kid’s clothing store and you are flooded with pink, pink, and more pink..topped off with exaggerated, luscious headbands…and then over there in the corner you have a few boy items. Let’s just say I am not swooning over this skull and cross bone or cutesy-animal thing (animals are cute in moderation) going on. It seems as though the market is forgetting about all the little gentlemen out there who just want to sport some serious swag. And then I discovered Bandana Bibs..OMG. Watch out ladies. Little lads know how to ROCK these things and for once, I’m not jelly over the pink and frills. These are super cute for the ladies too!!

Man’s Best Friend..

Those moments where something happens that just make you melt. Well, we had one today.

You always hear that statement, “Dogs are a man’s best friend.” Who knew that bond could begin so early in life?

I put Declan down quickly so I could start the dishwasher and turned around to our teensy little lady all cuddled up next to him and his sweet little hand gently reaching for her. Right from the get-go, the dogs have absolutely adored him and still get all jittery when they see him. This is the first time I have seen him reciprocate curiosity and excitement. It was simply precious.

I am so glad that I was able to catch such a sweet moment between a little man and his pup.

DIY Ombré Swaddle Blankets

DSC_0105edit

Swaddling..My lifesaver and that dreaded startle-reflex’s nightmare. Not only are these breathable, airy blankets perfect for swaddling because they are so large, but they are also ideal for those hot summer evenings when you just need something light. Along with this, they are perfect for using as a nursing cover, car seat cover, or stroller blanket.

Muslin blankets are amazing and I wish I could afford hundreds of them. These blankets are very similar and the best part is that they get softer with every wash, plus they are so easy and inexpensive to make! Continue reading

DIY Handmade Reusable Cloth Diaper Wipes & Bum Bottom Spray

I’ve officially entered the world of cloth diapers. Never in a million years did I imagine myself ever saying that. Just the thought made me want to get sick..And then I got used to poo. It doesn’t even phase me anymore. One of my friends spoke so highly of it that I thought it would be worth a try. Little did I know, I would become obsessed with collecting every color of the rainbow and doing extensive research on every little aspect of cloth diapering.

So here we are..trying out various brands (Charlie Banana and BumGenius ROCK, by the way) and I am quickly realizing that I will forever be in charge of “diaper-changing sessions” as Jordan absolutely despises the whole idea of reusing something you pooed in. I’m sure he will give in eventually.

Something that I realized was a huge hassle was throwing the diaper in the wet bag and then having these random wipes that I would have to get rid of. Sure, I could just throw them in a trash can separately, but I prefer just throwing them in the diaper and being done with it. SO…I decided to make my own reusable cloth wipes last night when Declan went to bed. I was able to make 18 wipes last night in about an hour and a half. I am by no means an expert seamstress, but even these can be made by beginners:)

Puj Splash Newborn Bath Set {Review}

Bathtime. I admit…I used to dread that word. I don’t know whether it was my aching back from leaning over the bathtub, that waiting time to get the plastic tub full enough to begin, battling the bath towel to keep my little one from freezing when getting him out of the tub, or the aftermath of waiting what seemed like ages for the tub to dry out…and where in the WORLD do you store that thing?!

What seemed like such a hassle is now one of the things I look forward to most.

A few weeks ago, Puj began their search for everyday moms who could give real, honest reviews on their newest product, The Puj Splash Newborn Bath Set. I applied and upon reading the email explaining that I was chosen as an exclusive product tester, you would have assumed I just won the lottery!

I’ve never loved receiving mail so much and the anticipation of getting a package is unreal…Until one day, this beauty showed up at my doorstep..

A Week Full of Firsts

EVERYONE goes on the 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C. right? Nope. Not me! Yes, I will admit I was a “tad” salty about it back in the day, but being able to experience all those “firsts” with Declan made it all worth it..even though he was less than impressed most of the time;)

When the thought of a vacation arose, I was ALL about it..and then realized we have a 3 month old and panic mode quickly set in. The thought of stuffing everything but the kitchen sink in our car and venturing for at least 6 hours one-way made me a “little” uneasy, but we went for it and I am so glad we did…

I am absolutely SHOCKED with how well little mister did in the car. I am amazed by how much patience he already has at such a young age. I’m guessing this was given to him by his daddy, as I get extremely anxious about EVERYTHING:) He slept an extremely long time in the car and my head was racing with the thought that he may get to the hotel and be wide-eyed. Let’s just say I was wrong. He was out like a light when we got there AND I even got to wake up to this cutie face the next morning after we all slept in.
